Tyree A. Anderson, D.Min., Pastor First Baptist Church of Ensley

Reverend Tyree A. Anderson, D.Min. is a native of Birmingham, Alabama and is the 15th Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Ensley in Birmingham, AL. He previously served his country as the Supervisory Chaplain for the Federal Bureau of Prisons at FCI/FDC Tallahassee in Tallahassee, FL.

 

As a significant voice on social justice issues such as: returning citizens, prison reform, international missions, business development, and Black Church issues in the 21st century, Dr. Anderson believes that this is a great time to do ministry in the margins. He is of the mindset that those living in the margins have value and need to hear a voice that speaks to their issues. He is a member of Phi Beta Sigma, Fraternity, Inc. and has an affinity for politics, public policy, and community development.

 

Dr. Anderson is Chairman of the Board of Directors for Harambee International Development Ministries, a 501 (c) 3 organization that does missionary and humanitarian work throughout the world. He has led missionary teams to Uganda, East Africa and conducted ministry leadership training in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. In 2008 he established the Shiloh Theological Training Center in Soroti, Uganda to offer theological training to African pastors in Christian Education. He has also studied African Traditional Religious in Ghana, West Africa in 2005 while a student at the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at the Virginia Union University.

 

In 2016, Rev. Dr. Anderson graduated with honors from the Ashland Theological Seminary with his Doctorate of Ministry degree with a concentration in Black Church Studies. He also holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, a Master of Arts in American History from George Mason University, and a Master of Divinity from the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University. Rev. Dr. Anderson is a firm believer in Christian Education and leadership development. He believes that this is how the Black church will remain relevant and why the Black church is the best option to initiate a paradigm shift to transform society.

 

Dr. Anderson is married to his college sweetheart, Denise Brown Anderson, PhD. and they have two children, Lesley and Joseph.

 

Dr. Anderson’s scripture of encouragement is Micah 6:8, “He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?”
