Tyree A. Anderson, D.Min. serves as the 15th Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Ensley in Birmingham, AL. He previously served his country as the Supervisory Chaplain for the Federal Bureau of Prisons at FCI/FDC Tallahassee in Tallahassee, FL.
Dr. Anderson has over 20 years of full time ministry and pastoral experience. Serving in Alexandria, VA, Tallahassee, FL, and Birmingham, AL has prepared him to work in a diverse context for the kingdom of God. As a denominational leader, Dr. Anderson serves as the First Vice Moderator for the Peace Baptist District Missionary Association, Chair of the Social Justice Commission for the Alabama State Missionary Baptist Convention, and is a certified Dean and Instructor the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. Sunday School Publishing Board. He is also an author of two books, numerous articles, and contributor to The Daystar Sunday School Teacher’s Commentary 2022-2023.
Dr. Anderson’s theological context is rooted in social justice and he has led efforts and campaigns to address issues focused on returning citizens, prison reform, global missions, public policy, black business development, and the Black Church. Dr. Anderson is Chairman of the Board of Directors for Harambee International Development Ministries, a 501 (c) 3 organization that does missionary and humanitarian work throughout the world. He leads mission and cultural immersion trips to Africa, the Caribbean Islands, and South America.
In 2016, Dr. Anderson graduated with honors from the Ashland Theological Seminary with his Doctorate of Ministry degree with a concentration in Black Church Studies. He also holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, a Master of Arts in American History from George Mason University, and a Master of Divinity from the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University. Dr. Anderson is a firm believer in Christian Education and leadership development. He believes that this is how the Black Church will remain relevant and why the Black church is the best option to initiate a paradigm shift to transform society.
Dr. Anderson is married to his college sweetheart, Denise Brown Anderson, PhD. and they have two children, Lesley and Joseph.
Dr. Anderson’s scripture of encouragement is Micah 6:8, “He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?”
